The Leather
Our U.S.-sourced oil tanned leather is incredibly easy to care for. With time and use, the natural oils in the leather will rise to the surface, developing a beautiful patina and smoothing any scuffs or scratches that may have accumulated. Learn more about caring for your new leather product.
Our full-grain leather is the strongest and most durable available, and the unique texture and natural imperfections from the cow’s life have not been sanded, cut or shaved off. Full-grain is SIX times stronger than Buffed, Upholstery or Genuine leather.
Please note that our pebbled leather, like all of our leather, is a natural product. You may notice changes in grain or texture throughout your bag. Other companies artificially press a pebble texture into their leather. However, the pebbling of our leather is achieved naturally through an extra tumbling process which leaves some areas of the hide smoother than others.

Buy the bag.
No, seriously: just buy the bag. Look at these photos. Not depicted is the amazing customer service I got when I found a defect with mine. They made it right very quickly. This thing has already been scuffed, rained on, lugged around...indestructible. Carries my 15" Dell work laptop just fine, plus its chargers and peripherals, and still has room for more... and it smells good.

Ok, but for real. This is the Dakota AP Messenger bag, and it looks different in different light... This incandescent lighting (and with a flash on two of these photos), you get more caramel in sunlight, but all right, let's talk about this bag... I thought it was going to be unlined? But, it's lined... and, to be clear? That's AWESOME. I love that they chose to use leather edging too, to tie in the colors. The inner lining is a really dark brown, so it matches well, and I don't have to worry about bits of suede getting all over my computer--yeah, I use this as a computer bag. I have a 15" Pavillion that fits VERY SNUGGLY, and in the pocket I put the charging cable and the bluetooth mouse. It's perfectly trim for this purpose, not bulky at all, and it closes no problem with good magnets. At first I thought maybe the magnets wouldn't be good for a computer but it seems well contained so I'm not worried at all. Also, it was a tighter fit when I first got it, but I managed to stretch it so it's good and comfortable, even with the lining.
It's SUCH a beautiful bag in person and the handle feels super secure and comfortable to grab. It's brushed nubuck, so you'll see on mine how it has some markings on it already--I can just brush them out. In that sense, it seems really resilient to scratches. I'm not especially easy on my stuff, but my last laptop bag was 25 years old before the clasp broke (today, actually!) and this bag is even better quality. I'm so, so excited to use this for years to come. It smells AMAZING and I did treat it with waterproofing because we have cats and I can just imagine them spilling something on it... It's invisible. No spritz dots or anything. There was a scar from the cow on the underside of the shoulder strap, and it shows up a dark gray, but it's in the perfect spot so it's not visible but also still assures me that no leather is going to waste.
If I could, I'd buy another one for my work laptop.
Actually, maybe I will. Maybe this time I'll go with a darker shade, like canyon. Dakota feels and smells amazing, though. If I had a bottomless bank account, I'd buy everything on their website just to surround myself in it. PLG, you're going to be the end of me❤️!

When my boyfriend casually mentioned he’d like a nice laptop bag … I couldn’t type in Portland Leather fast enough! He’s getting it for Xmas, but I’m sure he’ll love it. I certainly do!
