FAQ Content - Scarring
How can I tell if what I'm seeing on my item is a scar?
Although they stand out visually, scars have a "healed/sealed" look to them. They typically show up dark against the leather, and can sometimes be mistaken for pen marks by customers new to our products.

Scars on brown leather that also has pull-up characteristics.
How did my PLG item get this mark, and is it normal?Scars are incurred by the cow during life, and they exist on the hide prior to processing and tanning. Because of the textural change of the hide as it heals, the scar takes dye differently than the surrounding area, which can increase its visibility on the finished product.
Because none of our hides abraded to remove existing scars, they are considered normal on all of our products, even Premium items. However, the size and location of the scar can impact the grading of the product. On Premium items, scars should be present only on less visible panels of the product, like the sides, bottom, or back of a bag - unless the scar is very small in size. On Almost Perfect items, scars can be present on more visible areas of the product.

What can I do to address or treat the scar?Since scars are healed into the hide, they cannot be removed or altered with leather treatments or conditioning products.
