Our durable leather goods are unlined, featuring the natural suede side of the hide. Since fabric-lined bags inevitably discolor and tear with use, we chose to showcase the soft sueded underside of our hides, ensuring that your bag lasts a lifetime.

Because leather is a natural material, slight color and batch variations are normal. Factors like hide age, season, and dye absorption can all affect the final shade—making each piece uniquely yours.

Our oil tanned leather is incredibly easy to care for. With time and use, the natural oils in the leather will rise to the surface, developing a beautiful patina & smoothing any scuffs or scratches that may have accumulated. Learn more about caring for your new leather product.

Our full-grain leather is the strongest and most durable available, and the unique texture and natural imperfections from the cow's life have not been sanded, cut or shaved off. Almost Perfect items can feature more prominent character marks than our Premium line, and/or small stitching variations, showcasing the aesthetic variety of our natural hides and handmade designs.

Why do you use leather with prominent character marks in the first place?

We only qualify Almost Perfect in terms of cosmetic irregularities that have absolutely no impact on the quality or durability of our products. Rather, we figured that it'd be a shame to waste such beautiful and functional leather, so we decided to sell it at a discounted price.

What type of imperfection will I get with this bag?

Each of our Almost Perfect bags is one of a kind! While we can't say for sure which one you'll receive, some common character marks our customers find are pebbling and color variation, scars and striations, or a stitch out of place. That being said, rest assured that none of these "imperfections" will impact the functionality of the bag in any way!

I absolutely LOVE this purse! I got the Almost Perfect Large (zipper option) Raindrop Crossbody Bag in Sunflower, and could not be happier with everything about it. I did order the extended strap, and I'm glad I did. I'm picky about where I want my purses to hit my side when I'm wearing it as a crossbody, and the extender strap did the trick - it's perfect! I tried some of the other purses similar to this, but I love that this one had a pocket inside, and that the handles are rolled and stitched. It's makes a huge difference in comfort when you're carrying it as a tote. The inside is spacious, but not so big that all my things jumble together - everything fits perfectly for me. You can see a slight mark in the leather (hence the "almost perfect" label), but it only shows in certain light, and does not take away from the purse at all.

How do I love thee...

Let me count the ways.
1. Perfect size - not too big, not too small. Add in an organizer and it's literally perfect.
2. The leather - sturdy but not hard. And it smells good.
3. The color - sunflower is bright, cheery, goes with everything, and makes me smile.

Almost Perfect raindrop crossbody Plum

This was my first purchase from Portland Leather and I really enjoy using this purse! The color feels exciting, yet neutral with my wardrobe at the same time. The crossbody strap has been much more comfortable than I expected, and I also carry it on my wrist regularly because it’s just so cute! I was a bit concerned that it might be too small since I’m not exactly minimalist with the things I like to carry around, but I was afraid of going too large because I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and I always regret getting something that’s too heavy. Turns out that it’s the perfect size for me! It easily fits the large accordion zipper wallet, and the large seashell pouch inside of it, while still managing my bulky sunglasses case and my keychain. My purse feels very organized and I’m very pleased with my purchase. Did I mention how much I adore the color? It’s really beautiful! My next purchase might have to be one of the sunglasses cases so that it’s all such gorgeous leather.

Raindrop is my “purse peace”

I had been using a small size, zip close raindrop in cucumber as my daily carry and absolutely loved it! While it fits everything I need, I wanted a little more room just in case so picked up large zip close in aqua. It’s even better than the small and will work well both daily and for travel.
